Curiously, “pastoral” images of shepherds and their flocks were used early on as “intermissions” on the palimpsest of Italian TV in the 1960s, along with postcard images of monuments, including Greek and Roman ruins, pausing for a few minutes the flux of live or prerecorded programs.
