Derby’s Mechanics Lecture Hall, the most likely setting of the panorama’s debut, is described as a rather “grand” venue: a large, elegant room in the Grecian style of architecture, with fluted pilasters, sixteen windows, twelve branch gas lights, and a handsome chandelier, its walls painted to represent grey marble, 75 feet long, 40 feet wide, and 35 feet high.
