The professor diligently informed the university administration of his purchase, praising the perfect state of conservation of the specimens, as follows: “One can make out the muscles of the face, chest and arms...the eyes are closed, dried out and preserved, equally well preserved are the eyelashes and the short hair...The whole body is barren and dry, so much so that by knocking on it with fingers it sounds like a wooden board; nevertheless, physiognomic traits are admirably preserved, to the point that if one had seen the living subject, could have recognized him (in the mummy).” Quoted by Zatterin, Il Gigante, 243–244.
